"Coveting, Envy and Jealousy" (40 Days of Wisdom for Lent)

Don’t envy violent people
or choose any of their ways.
(Proverbs 3:31 CEB)

Jealousy makes a man rage;
he’ll show no mercy on his day of revenge.
(Proverbs 6:34 CEB)

The wicked covet the catch of evil men,
But the root of the righteous yields fruit.
(Proverbs 12:12)

A peaceful mind gives life to the body,
but jealousy rots the bones.
(Proverbs 14:30 CEB)

The desire of the lazy man kills him,
For his hands refuse to labor.
He covets greedily all day long,
But the righteous gives and does not spare.
(Proverbs 21:25-26)

Don’t let your heart envy sinners,
but fear the Lord constantly;
then you will have a future,
and your hope won’t be cut off.
(Proverbs 23:17-18 CEB)

Don’t envy evil people,
and don’t long to be with them.
Their hearts are focused on violence,
and their lips speak of trouble.
Don’t get fighting mad at evil people;
don’t be envious of the wicked.
Indeed, there is no future for the evil;
the lamp of the wicked will be put out.
(Proverbs 25:1-2,19-20 CEB)

Wrath is cruel and anger is a flood,
but who can withstand jealousy?
(Proverbs 27:4 CEB)
